Here are answers to the most common questions we get.
If it’s near to class time, they can sign in to the Mobius game directly. Once they are logged in, they will see their classes listed on the left, and they can click “Join Class” to get started.
Once they have signed into Mobius at app.mobius.academy, and joined their class, they will see a button to join the Zoom video chat with the rest of their class.
All of our classes are online so you can find the time that works best for you and join from wherever you are. You can change times at your convenience or join multiple classes per week if you would like.
We try for class sizes with 3-10 students (some may be slightly different depending on last minute changes or type of class). This is the optimal size we have found for a good dynamic in activities, motivation that comes with a group and interaction time with coaches. Every class has a live coach to lead the group, and may have another coach who is learning or guiding the main coach.
The programs we offer (Explorers, Navigators, and Challengers) each span three years of age. Within those programs, classes are mixed to maximize engagement and fun for the students. We will almost always end up with students close in age, and of similar experience. Level of math is unique per student, so there might be a fairly wide level of ability in one group, but it does not change the flow of the experience. For example if a class is playing a game, all students will be playing the same game even though the math they are working on is unique to them.
Yes! The Explorers (gr 1-3), Navigators (gr 4-6), and Challengers (gr 7-9) programs group kids by age, but we realize that’s not always a fit. The Explorers program, for example, mainly focuses on math-powered gaming, while the Challengers program uses very little gaming, and focuses on competitive math challenges. If your child feels that they would be more comfortable in a group that does not match their age, they are welcome to join.
As we grow, we continue to add new class time slots, so sign in to the portal to see what’s available for the program you are interested in, and for your time zone. If the times work for you, regardless of your time zone, please feel free to sign up. We will be adding more class times as we grow.
All accounts, scheduling, and student management is handled on the Mobius portal. You can create a parent account, and accounts for any young students you would like, and then manage classes and scheduling there.
Yes! We understand that kids’ schedules are hectic and ever-changing. You can sign up for any available time slot, change at any time, and cancel without penalty up to 6hrs in advance. A simple to use online portal lets you manage your own schedule for one or more students.
Yes! You can indicate who your friends are, and if they are joining a class at the same time, we’ll do everything we can to make sure you are in the same group.
We offer three distinct programs; Explorers focuses on grades 1-3, Navigators focuses on grades 4-6 and Challengers focuses on grades 7-9. Each program uses a different mix of games, skills training, and challenging problems in a way that is appropriate to that age group.
Not specifically. We are focused on maximizing the learning for each child individually.
The learning path for each student is dynamic and catered to their exact abilities and challenges. They may do well in one area, but struggle in another, and the problems they work on will align to that. They may be ahead or behind what is typical at their grade level, and again, their curriculum will align to that.
Our K-12 math curriculum covers all the topics you would expect from early numeracy in grade 1 to the advanced topics of grade 12. You’ll find that we cover the same topics as their math classes at school, just not in the same exact sequence.
Every problem has an answer, so you’ll get a very clear sense of where your young student is doing well and where they are currently learning. However, since the curriculum is adaptive, it will increase in difficulty until it finds the point that they are optimally challenged. For that reason, you won’t see us focus on percentage marks in the same way that a math class might.
No, we cater the approach we use to the students in the group. Generally younger kids (grades 1-6) love games, and by grade 8 they are starting to move beyond games and just want to focus on the mathematics. Our older programs (Challengers) is much less game-focused, and brings in competitive math challenges.
Yes! Often the more foundational the problem type, the faster it can be done (ie, basic multiplication problems will usually be faster than basic trigonometry problems), which gives an advantage to kids who might be working on those problem types. We’ve frequently seen struggling kids turn a corner and get more enthusiastic about math the first time time they win a competitive game. Soon, they are no longer struggling.
That’s up to you. Students each have a dynamic set of practice areas where they had some challenges in previous games. Working on them earns points that can be spent on “boosters” in game, so students are often quite motivated to do a bit of practice.
Every week you’ll receive a detailed report on the areas we focused on, how your young student did, and any topic areas that were a challenge.

In the portal, as a parent, you can see your linked students’ user names and passwords, and change their passwords there if you would like.

Mobius tracks student progress and activity at the account level, so each student must have a separate account. As a parent with more than one child using Mobius, you'll need to have separate accounts for each child so we can keep their math progress from mixing. Creating a separate parent account lets you see how all your children are progressing. If you have a single child using Mobius you can choose to share an account with your child or keep things separate -- up to you!
